Buffalo Rally, Mosselbaai, 16-18 Maart (Amorita Engelbrecht)

We were all packed and ready to leave the Strand early Friday morning.   It was cool and overcast with no wind or rain, but after looking at the weather forecast we decided to put on our rain jackets.   We had a lovely run up to Riviersonderend where we met up with Ian Read of Pringle Bay.   From there on we had rain on and off, I’m sure people living on the way was happy, the lands were really dry, we are still waiting for our winter rains.

Dit was seker baie welkom in hierdie nat weer.

Saturday turned out to be a lovely day, a light breeze with no rain, Len Poole and Peter Stelling took the opportunity to try flying their kites, with some success!   Those who entered for the Buff, went to Mossel Bay to visit the camping site.  André  said everywhere you could see underwear and socks hanging out to dry on amongst other things the bikes’ handlebars.   He also saw some of our members such as Salmon & Elsa Nelson from Ceres, Ulandi & Jacques Claassens and saw where Neville Guesteyn was camping in the wet conditions.  Apparently at one stage André  made himself comfortable under a tree with a coke in hand and just watched the happenings and people in front of him for a long time, taking in the smells, colors, noise and sights, coming to the conclusion that it is good that we are all different, making life so much more interesting.   Afterwards he went to the old Museum’s parking lot in town to look at the bikes that were entered for the concourse.   There he saw Koos and Hetta who were having a lovely time with some friends on the stoep of the local hotel.   Thereafter he went for a ride around Die Punt of Mossel Bay and noticed how a traffic cop was busy issuing a ticket to a biker who just completed a near burnout in the middle of the main road in front of a huge crowd.

Poegie met syspan!!

I asked André  to take some photo’s at the camp site as Godelieve didn’t enter, he came back with one photo.   I knew Thelma would also take some photo’s, so I didn’t worry too much.   She also came back with only one photo, exactly the same one as André’s!

We slept a bit later on Sunday, some wanted to watch the first F1 Grand Prix of the year, we left at half past nine, a lovely cool ride back, with lots of bikers on the way.

We realy enjoyed the ride there and back as well as the lovely atmosphere amongst friends where we stayed, a lovely rest, lots of laughs and just switching off from our regular daily routines.  As it was also my first real long ride on the Goldwing since my nasty fall in December, I’m pleased that I recovered enough so I could enjoy the ride and am looking forward to our Kaapse Fling to be held at Port Alfred the end of April.

PARADISE RALLY 3-5 June 2011

I booked accommodation in Graskop for the weekend of the Paradise Rally (3-5 June), but we can no longer go . So, I’m looking for some riders that will be prepared to take the booking over from me. This is a house that sleeps 18 persons, in Graskop and not very far from the main rally site.

Would you be prepared to send this mail out to your members. Interested parties can call me direct.

Buffalo Rally, Mosselbaai – 18 tot 21 Maart 2011 (Amorita Engelbrecht)

Allan Casey - Overall Winner

It turned out to be a nice and cool day, just outside Ashton we caught up with a lot of trucks, which gave André the chance to practice some slow driving!   We stopped at Ronnie’s Sex Shop, but we were too early for breakfast, so we just had some coffee.  Ulandi said she would have to fill up in Ladysmith, but André convinced her she would reach Riversdale, as she put in the same litres at Ashton as he. So what happened?, half a kilometre outside Riversdale she ran out of petrol.  Johan Odendaal went ahead to get some at the nearest petrol station.  André already had a towing rope ready but luckily Johan returned before that was necessary.  Ulandi will definitely think twice before listening to a guy again!  We had a nice breakfast at Riversdale and went on our way to Mosselbay.

Krish & Gail Naidoo's Bike - Standard Winner

Mooi so!

Ulandi had to leave on Sunday, but the rest of us had a lovely leisurely day.  Wempie and Neelie from Heidelberg joined us for a midday braai where a lot of nonsense was talked, as usual. We just had time for an hour or two’s rest, then we ate the leftovers and went to bed. Felicity’s stywe pap en wors was a winner.
