Message at the funeral of Andrew Blair, by Hendrik Sadie, President: Wing Riders of SA

A lot of us say that we are Christians. My wife and I have regularly been watching Joyce Meyer on TBN at night. Joyce makes it clear that you will neither be identified as a Christian by your bumper sticker on your car, nor by the cross around your neck. She says that – according to the bible – you will be identified as a Christian, purely by your attitude and the way you treat other people.

Andrew was such a person. You could see that he was a true Christian. Always soft-spoken, kind to his family and friends – never saying anything bad about someone else.

Let that be an inspiration to us all. Let his spirit live on in our hearts and minds by treating each other with love and respect.

We lost another fellow Wing Rider by the name of Corrie a while ago. He was also a kind and soft-spoken person – just like Andrew.

I am sure that Corrie was waiting for Andrew at the gates of heaven on a brand new 1800 Wing to travel the heavenly roads together. That does not mean that the BMW guys don’t go to heaven – it means that they get to ride the dirt roads only! 🙂

Andrew … our dear friend and fellow Wing Rider … you will be dearly missed by us all!

Hi to all,

It is a great honour for me to have been elected as the President of the Wing Riders SA.

I sincerely hope that my National Committee and I will be able to follow in the footsteps of our past President Anton Bellingan and his team who stepped down at the end of 2014.

As we are all aware, almost all organizations are experiencing a drop in membership due to financial reasons – even the best of charity organizations are experiencing the same fate.   The Wing Riders SA is therefore no exception to the rule.

We are however fortunate in a sense that we have never been – neither will we ever be – a club with thousands of members.   This is mainly due to our membership policies.   What we truly are, is a dedicated small group of people who has a passion for Honda Gold Wings, Honda Silver Wings and Honda Valkyries.

That means that percentage wise we have not lost a lot of members when compared to other motorcycle clubs.    Another reason is that with an annual membership fee of only R400 per member (that is how much some clubs charge per month) we have been able to keep most of our members over many years.    It is therefore not strange to find a lot of our members over and approaching the 20 year uninterrupted membership milestone.

We are all like a big family and are all very close to another.    New potential members are scrutinised very carefully and once they have been accepted, they can look forward to a wonderful time spent with the Wing Riders SA.

I am personally looking forward to the Wing Fling which will be held at Magoebaskloof during October this year.    We have made special arrangements for non members who own the motorcycles as mentioned and we will welcome them with open arms if they want to join us.    At a specially discounted rate of less than R530 per person per day including dinner, bed & breakfast it is a given that we will be able to fill all fifty available rooms in no time!

My wife Maria and I are looking forward to seeing you all!

Wing Riders Hugs & Kisses

Greetings to all members…

I can hardly believe weinto April already. The weather is already telling us that winter is on its way. Not that I mind, for me this is the best time of the year to ride my Wing, not to hot, not to cold, just right. For some of us, it’s the start of the raining season, so be extra careful on the roads.

Quite a few of us travelled down to Mosselbay to attend the 2014 Buffalo Rally.  It was nice to see so many Wing Riders from up country as well. Every year I am just amazed to see so many people enjoying themselves as if there is no tomorrow. Some of them will only remember when they arrived and left. What happened during the Rally must be a blur.

With Richard’s accident, I have again realised the importance of wearing the correct gear when riding your motorcycle. I urge you to wear the proper protective gear even if you travel just to the café around the corner.

Safe riding till next time

Cannot believe the first month of 2014 is something of the past already. It feels to me the older you get the quicker times fly. Another thing I cannot understand is our current weather. Down here in the Cape it is uncommonly warm and in Jo’burg area if it’s not hailing golf balls it’s poring with rain for days on end.

Most members have paid their renewal fees for 2014 and we should shortly know exactly how many members re-joined in 2014. Since it was decided at the AGM to close the Jo’Burg chapter, some members decided to join either East Rand or Western Cape. For the time being there will therefore only be 2 Chapters.

Safe riding till next time

As hard as it is to believe, we are in the holiday season for 2013!  My family and I wish you a very happy, healthy and joyous season.

It is that time of year when we should be more grateful for what we have, especially the people in our lives! Yes, it’s nice to have all the toys, but it’s the people, the family…the friends that make life worthwhile.Personally speaking, I have my genetic family and I have my Wing Riders family. What a lucky guy I am to have two families.

Dear Members

It has been a while that I have put pen to paper, or should I say, typed a few words on the keyboard. It’s been hectic at work and at home we are busy with some alterations, preparing all the stuff for the Wing Fling and looking after the grandchildren nearly every night whilst my daughter is studying. I hope your lives were more relax and not so busy.

Talking about the Wing Fling, just remember that if you have any concerns, complaints or suggestion to be discussed at the AGM, please forward same to your Chairman or directly to me by E-Mail. The AGM will have a closed agenda and only matters raised beforehand will be discussed. I am really looking forward to seeing all the Hollywood Stars at the Wing Fling. The Western Cape is apparently planning a fantastic time for you all so don’t miss it and be disappointed afterwards.

Safe riding till next time

GeagteLede

We recently had a very nice trip to the Buff in Mosselbay. This year the weather played along with only a slight drizzle the Saturday morning.  Myself, Felicity and Andre of the Western Cape had an informal chat with Jan Botha, Gerrie van Zyl and Allan Casey regarding the Jo’Burg chapter.  Both Jan and Gerrie recently resigned as chairman and vice/acting chairman of the Jo’Burg chapter. At the moment no one is prepared to take over from them and we thought we could see how we can keep the chapter going until we can find someone to take charge of the Jo’Burg members.

It was decided that we will keep the chapter “on ice” for the time being and that Felicity will do the admin for them so long. Congratulations to Juliana Botha, first prize in the open category and Kevin van Niekerk who received the second prize in the Concourse competition. Our Wings stole the show at the Buff again.

Weskaap = 107

Oosrand = 73

Groete  Anton

Dear Wing Riders

Who can believe we are already in the 2nd month of 2013. Don’t know if it has something to do with age, but for me, time is flying at a hell of a speed faster than before. Trust you have renewed your membership for 2013, seeing that the deadline has passed already. Quite a few new members have joined the “Wing Family” and we are looking forward to spend many happy and joyful years with you.

It is not even winter yet, yet quite a few “Capies” are sick already. They all have the same symptoms. They are feverish, hyperactive, and anxious with a strange twinkle in their eyes. I am not a doctor, but they all have one thing in common and that’s why I have diagnose them with a condition called “Wing Fling Fewer” Apparently it’s very contagious, so watch out and there is only one cure and that is to attend the Wing Fling in Stellenbosch this year. So prepare yourself, start saving for the trip and book yourself in for the best treatment you can imagine.

Wing Groete  Anton

Christmas Message Anton Bellingan

National President

Greetings to all

Another year has come and gone, and before we know it we will be facing 2013. That is if we make it past the 21st,    the so called end of the world. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you, who has made this past year a success and an enjoyable one. A big thanks to the leadership team, who assisted me in making 2012 yet another year to remember. A special thanks to the East Rand members for presenting a fantastic Wing Fling in Rustenburg.  Thanks to the members  who participated in the events of the different chapters, we appreciate your efforts and contribution.

Last but not least, myself and Felicity would like to wish each and everyone a peaceful and blessed Xmas, and always remember the “Reason for the Season is Jesus” Please be extremely vigilant over the festive season when on your Wing. A lot of people will be drinking and driving again and you will be very vulnerable on your Wing.

The Western Cape Chapter had a well attended Flower Run weekend to Lambertsbay recently. The full story can be followed on the website. What struck me again was the fantastic camaraderie among the members and willingness to help each other no matter what. Quite a few members had problems with their tyres, but assistance was just a phone call away. Thanks to everyone who assisted the stranded members, just another reason for me to be a proud member of the Wingriders family.

Talking about Rustenburg and the upcoming Wing Fling, I trust you are all looking forward to an awesome time full of fun and enjoyment. I can’t wait anymore to get on my Wing and to spend some time with friends. Don’t forget to pack your cleaning material and polish, the trophies this year are to die for.

Safe riding till next time.   Anton
